In manuscripts, “oriscus” musical notation at times looks like the infinity symbol or a stylised bird in full flight… It is used to show ornamentation, the exact mechanics of which are still to be discovered. Made up of musicians from a variety of backgrounds, Ensemble Oriscus strives to bring notation of the period authentically to life. The group also explores all the uncertainties and freedoms that this notation offers performers in a quest to pin down the very essence of the music.

While Anne Bertin-Hugault was studying for her diploma in singing, she was introduced to the music of Hildegard von Bingen by medievalist singer Anne Delafosse. Ever since, she has been singing and sharing the repertoire of the period. Anne Bertin-Hugault and the music of Hildegard von Bingen are the perfect match, with the former truly living out and embodying the music. Anne is currently adding to her knowledge at the Paris Gregorian Choir School. She has a professional Certificate of Aptitude and teaches the piano at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatoire and accompaniment at the Europe and Mediterranean Institute of Higher Musical Education (IESM).
